  • A clear result in Dubai is not a clear result nationwide. GDRFA immigration restrictions and MOHRE absconding cases sit outside it.

Two free services answer the question in about two minutes. Dubai Police covers cases registered in Dubai; Abu Dhabi has its own service, Estafser. The other five emirates have no online check at all.

How to check a travel ban in the Dubai Police app

  1. Open the service. In the Dubai Police app (iOS or Android), or on dubaipolice.gov.ae, search the services list for "Circulars and Travel Bans".
  2. Sign in. Use UAE Pass, or enter your Emirates ID number and clear the captcha. No account registration is needed for the basic check.
  3. Confirm the SMS code if the service asks for one. It goes to the phone number registered against your Emirates ID.
  4. Press Search. The answer appears on screen at once: either no circulars, or a ban with the case behind it.

UAE Pass login works from outside the UAE, so you can check before booking a flight home. If the SMS never arrives because your number changed, go to a Smart Police Station. They run 24/7 and check against your passport or Emirates ID.

What the January 2026 upgrade added

Dubai Police rebuilt this service on 20 January 2026. The screen now names the issuing authority and the outstanding amount, not just a yes or no. You can pay by card in the same session, and the ban comes off automatically within seconds.

Phase one is limited to travel bans from the Rental Dispute Settlement Centre. Bans from Dubai Courts and the Public Prosecution still go through the issuing body. The service also notifies you the moment a new circular is registered against you.

Abu Dhabi: Estafser, and the emirates with nothing

  • Abu Dhabi — Estafser (ADJD). Free, 24/7, on adjd.gov.ae or in the ADJD app. It shows travel bans, prosecution requests and case status. Feed it your unified number, not the card number.
  • Federal prosecution cases — pp.gov.ae. The UAE Public Prosecution portal runs its own case inquiry, and u.ae lists it as one of the places to look.
  • Immigration and sponsorship — GDRFA Dubai. If the problem is your visa or your file rather than a debt, GDRFA is the authority, through its app, UAE Pass on the website, or an Amer centre.
  • Northern emirates. Sharjah, Ajman, RAK, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain have no public online lookup. You contact the courts or public prosecution of that emirate directly.
  • u.ae. The government portal checks nothing itself. It is a directory that sends you to the right authority.

No Emirates ID, no UAE Pass, no local number

Can you check by passport number?

Not on the official ban services. Dubai Police, Estafser and GDRFA all run on an Emirates ID number or a unified number, and no government portal returns a travel ban from a foreign passport number alone. GDRFA Dubai does have a "Find Unified Number" service, so a lost UID is recoverable, and Estafser works from there. Sites advertising an instant passport-only ban check are not official sources. The result shows a ban — what next

The check tells you a ban exists. It does not tell you how to get out. Note which service flagged it, then find the case number and the authority behind it.
